SAN DIEGO (Aug. 14, 2026) – San Diego Wave FC (10-7-3, 33 points) earned a 1-1 draw against Denver Summit FC (6-7-6, 24 points) on Friday night at Snapdragon Stadium. 

Before kickoff tonight, defender Kristen McNabb was recognized in front of the home crowd after becoming the first player in club history to reach 100 appearances in Wave FC’s 1-0 road win against the Washington Spirit on Aug. 2. 

Denver applied pressure early, but San Diego settled into the match and began creating opportunities. Ludmila nearly opened the scoring in the 27th minute after rounding goalkeeper Abby Smith but sent her effort just wide. 

Wave FC took the lead eight minutes later through Melanie Barcenas. After receiving the ball from Gia Corley on the right, Barcenas cut inside, beat multiple defenders and drove a low shot into the bottom corner from outside the box. Lia Godfrey nearly doubled the lead before halftime, but her curling effort was denied by Smith. 

San Diego created several chances early in the second half before Denver equalized in the 58th minute. Janine Sonis delivered a cross from the left that Yazmeen Ryan headed past Sandra Paños. Barcenas nearly restored the lead two minutes later when her effort from distance struck the crossbar. 

Midfielder Laila Harbert, acquired from Arsenal F.C. on July 28, made her Wave FC debut in the 72nd minute. Defender Brooklyn Courtnall in the 83rd minute who joined on loan from Bay FC on July 31. Adriana Leon found the back of the net late, but the goal was ruled out for offside. 

Neither side found a winner, and the match ended 1-1 at Snapdragon Stadium.

Next on the schedule: The Wave continue its home stretch at Snapdragon Stadium on Friday, Aug. 21 when San Diego hosts the Utah Royals. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. PT with tickets available for purchase here. The game will be broadcast live on Prime Video.
