San Diego Wave FC (6-6-2, 20 points) will host Washington Spirit (6-3-5, 23 points) this Saturday, July 8, at Snapdragon Stadium. The match will air on Paramount+ with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. PT.

In all-time meetings between the two clubs, the home team has won every match. Last season, San Diego and Washington met for the first time at Torero Stadium, with the Wave earning three points in a 2-1 win. Forward Makenzy Doniak and midfielder Belle Briede scored for the Wave, while the Spirit’s Jordan Baggett was able to score the club’s lone goal in extra time. . The two teams met again for a high-scoring match on Sept. 10 at Audi Field. San Diego’s then 17-year-old midfielder Jaedyn Shaw opened the scoring in the seventh minute but by halftime, the Spirit took a commanding 3-1 lead. After halftime, forward Alex Morgan scored two goals for the Wave, but in the late minutes of added time, Washington drew a foul in the box that led to Ashley Hatch’s game-winning penalty kick.

The two teams met most recently on May 6 at Audi Field where the match ended in a 3-1 loss for San Diego. Alex Morgan scored the lone goal for the Wave in the 90th minute to prevent a shutout for the Spirit. 

Most recently, the Spirit are coming off a 3-0 loss to Orlando Pride on Saturday, marking their second straight loss. Washington currently sit in fourth place in the NWSL standings. The Spirit are led by Hatch, as the forward has collected over 30% of the club’s goals and ranks third in the league in goals scored (7). 

San Diego is coming off their third straight loss as they faced the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday at SeatGeek Stadium. The Red Stars scored at the end of the first half which proved to be the game-winner for Chicago.  Shaw is currently the second-leading goal scorer for the Wave with four goals this season.
