18-year-old forward signs multi-year contract with San Diego
San Diego Wave FC announced today that the club has signed forward Jaedyn Shaw to a new contract. Shaw, the 2022 U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year, signed a multi-year contract with the Wave through the 2026 season*.
“Jaedyn is a top, young attacking talent and has an exciting future ahead of her in San Diego,” said San Diego Wave FC General Manager Molly Downtain. “She’s been central to so many key moments for the club and we look forward to creating more of those moments for years to come.”
Shaw, 18, joined the Wave via the Discovery Process and signed her first professional contract on July 18, 2022, at 17-years-old. She made her pro debut on July 30, scoring 28 minutes into her first game, making her the youngest player in NWSL to score in her debut. Shaw finished her rookie campaign with three goals in seven games, helping the Wave reach the NWSL semifinals. In 2023, Shaw has recorded four goals and one assist through 15 regular season games (12 starts).
“At just 18, Jaedyn has proven to be one of the best in the league, and we’re excited to help her develop both on and off the field,” said San Diego Wave FC Head Coach Casey Stoney. “Her vision and ability on the ball is some of the best I’ve seen in the game and she’s yet to even hit her ceiling. This contract is well-deserved for Jaedyn and absolutely thrilled to have her here in San Diego.”
Shaw has been a consistent presence on the U-20 U.S. Youth National Team, playing in all three matches in the 2022 U-20 FIFA World Cup. She ended the year with seven caps and three goals, scoring against Costa Rica, Mexico and the Netherlands.
