SAN DIEGO (Aug, 2, 2026) – San Diego Wave FC (9-6-2, 29 points) travels to Washington, D.C., to face the Washington Spirit (11-3-3, 36 points) on Sunday, Aug. 2, at Audi Field. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. PT, with the match airing nationally on CBS Sports Network and locally on FOX 5/KUSI San Diego.

San Diego snapped a seven-match winless streak against Washington (0-4-3) earlier this season with a 2-1 victory at Snapdragon Stadium on May 15. Trinity Byars opened the scoring in the sixth minute with the first goal of her professional career before the Spirit equalized in the 33rd minute. In the 89th minute, Kenza Dali delivered a corner kick that found 18-year-old Kimmi Ascanio, whose header secured the game-winning goal and all three points for the Wave.

Last Time Out:
The Wave fell 2-0 to Seattle Reign FC on July 26 despite outshooting Seattle 22-9 and controlling 61% of possession. San Diego created several quality scoring opportunities, but Reign goalkeeper Claudia Dickey recorded eight saves to preserve the clean sheet. Through 17 matches this season, the Wave are averaging nearly 2.0 expected goals (xG) per match while creating the most big chances in the attacking third of any team in the NWSL.

Washington enters Sunday’s match on the heels of a 1-0 win over the Utah Royals on Wednesday night, extending its run to 11 wins in its last 13 regular-season matches. Trinity Rodman scored the lone goal in the 27th minute, while the Spirit remain unbeaten in four all-time home matches against San Diego (3-1-0) at Audi Field.

Players to Watch:
Trinity Byars continued her impressive run of form against Kansas City, recording the first brace of her professional career and moving into the team lead with six goals this season. Her 90th-minute equalizer marked her fourth goal scored in the 90th minute or later this season, the most by any player in a single NWSL regular season.

For Washington, forward Trinity Rodman leads the club with eight goals and five assists for 13 goal contributions. Rodman has already matched her career high for goals in a single season through just 17 matches.
