SAN DIEGO (March 28, 2024) – Defender Kaitlyn Torpey and midfielder Emily van Egmond have been named to the CommBank Matildas squad for the upcoming international friendly against Mexico on Tuesday, April 9 at 5:00 p.m. PT at Toyota Field in San Antonio, Texas.
This will be Australia’s first meeting in thirteen years with the recent Concacaf W Gold Cup semi-finalists. The match will also mark the Matildas first outing since qualifying for the Paris 2024™ Olympic Games in February and will formally commence Australia’s preparations for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
On the international stage, van Egmond, a 14-year professional veteran, has competed in four World Cups and has appeared in over 100 matches for her country.
This will be the second call-up for Torpey, a recent signing for the Wave, who most recently made her Australian first team debut on February 24 against Uzbekistan, where she earned the start and logged 45 minutes. She later went on to score the opening goal in a 10-0 win over Uzbekistan on February 28 to help lift her team to victory and World Cup qualification.
