SAN DIEGO (Sept. 12, 2026) – San Diego Wave FC (14-8-3, 45 points) earned a 2-1 win over North Carolina Courage (12-10-3, 42 points) on Saturday afternoon at Snapdragon Stadium. Entering the match level on points in the NWSL standings, the Wave extended their unbeaten home run to four matches and moved three points clear of the Courage.
San Diego controlled the early stages with a high press and nearly opened the scoring in the second minute when Melanie Barcenas found the net, but the goal was called back for an offside in the buildup. The Wave continued to create chances before Brooklyn Courtnall drove down the right wing and found Gia Corley, who finished for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
Sandra Paños preserved the 1-0 scoreline heading into halftime with a key double save in the 30th minute, first denying Ashley Sanchez before reacting quickly to stop the follow-up effort.
San Diego doubled its lead in the 72nd minute when Courtnall won possession in midfield and released Barcenas into space. The 18-year-old cut inside onto her left foot and curled home her sixth goal of the season.
Sanchez pulled one back for North Carolina in the 82nd minute, but the Wave defense held firm through the closing stages to secure all three points.
