Partnership will share commitment to empowering women and improving women’s total health

San Diego Wave Fútbol Club today named Kaiser Permanente as the club’s first Health Partner and trusted Team Physician Provider as its inaugural season kicks off March 19 with the National Womens’ Soccer League Challenge Cup.

Through the affiliation Kaiser Permanente physicians will bring their world class sports medicine care, emphasizing training and early intervention to help Wave FC players achieve their peak performance. The organizations have a shared commitment to community, diversity, honesty, progress and inclusion, intent on building a better path forward for women athletes, professionals and all to succeed. The organizations will work together to establish community health and wellness programs aimed at empowering girls and young women to achieve their highest level of wellness. These programs will also encourage our communities to thrive through the support of club and park district sports. As part of the long-term agreement, Kaiser Permanente will be featured on the front of Wave FC’s training jerseys.

“We are honored to partner with Kaiser Permanente and welcome their incredible support for women’s professional sports,” said Jill Ellis, President, Wave FC.  “We have a shared commitment to provide a positive impact on the people of San Diego and believe in the importance of health and wellness for our community.”

Kaiser Permanente will also invest in Wave FC’s community impact programming aimed to improve access to health and wellness education with an emphasis on women and girls. This work will spotlight specialty sports medicine care and is anchored by a highly skilled  team of physicians in Southern California treating Wave’s elite female athletes.

“Kaiser Permanente’s partnership with Wave FC is a clear demonstration of our shared vision and values for healthier communities, where girls and women can achieve their highest potential,” said Julie Miller-Phipps, president, Kaiser Permanente Southern California and Hawaii Health Plan and Hospitals. “Supporting this club and athletic activities in San Diego exemplifies our commitment to improving the self-esteem of young women, while making meaningful impacts on the total health and wellness of the communities we serve.”

Ramin Davidoff, MD, executive medical director, Southern California Permanente Medical Group, said, “We are proud to support women’s professional sports and provide care for the Wave FC athletes. Our sports medicine care emphasizes training and injury prevention, early intervention, and comprehensive injury treatment to help athletes perform their best.”

Wave FC opens the 2022 Challenge Cup against Angel City FC on March 19 and plays its first home match in club history on March 26 against Portland Thorns at University of San Diego’s Torero Stadium.
