San Diego Wave midfielder Sofia Jakobsson and the Sweden Women’s National Team earned a 2-1 victory over South Africa at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in New Zealand.
After falling to South Africa in the 48th minute, Sweden leveled the match in the 66th minute. In the 90th minute, Amanda Illestedt found the net for the Swedes to score a later winner to secure the 2-1 win.
Sweden will play Italy at Wellington Regional Stadium for their second group stage match on Saturday, July 29 at 12:30 a.m. PT, before closing out the group stage against Argentina on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 12:00 a.m. PT at FMG Stadium Waikato.
