Alex Morgan hits 200th international appearance milestone for the USWNT

San Diego, Calif. (November 15th, 2022) – Six Wave FC players competed with their respective federations for the final international window of the 2022 calendar year as preparations for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand continue.

Defender Naomi Girma, forward Alex Morgan and midfielder Taylor Kornieck played with the USWNT 23-player roster for two friendlies against Germany. The stars and stripes split with the German side, each tallying a 2-1 win against one another. All three of San Diego’s players found minutes in the matches. Notably, Morgan tallied her 200th cap for the United States in a 2-1 win against Germany.

“It’s a little surreal coming up on 200 because I almost feel like 100 was just a couple of years ago and before that, my first cap, so I’ve absolutely loved every moment I’ve played on this team. I never take anything for granted and just fortunate and grateful to continue to be here to represent the country. Now as one of the most capped players and a veteran on the team, I hope to continue to lead this team.”

Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan competed in net for Canada in a two-match friendly series against Brazil. Similarly, Canada split with Brazil, each tallying a 2-1 win against one another.

Forward Sofia Jakobsson and midfielder Emily van Egmond met in Melbourne in a matchup between Sweden and Australia. Australia showed a dominant performance with a 4-0 win against the Swedish side, and continued on with a 2-0 win against Thailand, where van Egmond dished an assist.

Next summer, the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup will kick off in Australia and New Zealand. The USWNT will begin their World Cup campaign in Group E, facing Vietnam, Netherlands, and the playoff winner from Group A. Canada and Australia will be in Group B to face each other, along with Ireland, and Nigeria. Sweden will compete in Group G alongside South Africa, Italy, and Argentina.
