2015 NWSL Rookie of the Year joins Wave FC

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Dec. 5, 2022) – San Diego Wave Fútbol Club has signed former Chicago Red Stars midfielder Danielle Colaprico to its 2023 roster on a two-year contract through the 2024 NWSL season. The 2015 NWSL Rookie of the Year brings eight years of veteran NWSL experience to San Diego Wave FC.

“I’m very happy with the signing of Danielle. Danny brings with her a vast amount of league experience along with the ability to dictate the play in the midfield, and both of these qualities will really strengthen our team as we enter year two.”
Casey Stoney, San Diego Wave FC Head Coach

The Chicago Red Stars drafted Colaprico in 2015 from the University of Virginia as the ninth overall pick of the NWSL College Draft. The New Jersey native finished her collegiate career as the program’s all-time leader in assists and appearances with 44 and 100.

In her eight seasons at Chicago, Colaprico was pivotal in the midfield with over 150 matches played and six goals. In addition to her Rookie of the Year award, Colaprico was also named to the NWSL second XI in 2015, 2016 & 2017.

Colaprico has represented the United States at both the U-23 level (2015) and the senior Women’s National Team (2015, 2016 and 2018). The midfielder scored a goal during the U-23’s 2–0 defeat of Norway at the 2015 Six Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain. Colaprico made her first senior cap on Nov. 8, 2018, subbing on in the second half of a friendly versus Portugal.

While with the Red Stars, Colaprico spent time on loan in 2016 and 2017 with Australian club Adelaide United. In 2018, the midfielder was loaned to Sydney FC where she helped her squad win the 2018-19 W-League Championship.

“I’m so excited to have signed with the San Diego Wave and continue my soccer journey here. Seeing the growth the team made in just one year is inspirational. I can’t wait to play in front of an incredible fan base and further develop as a player with my new teammates, under Casey Stoney.”
