San Diego Wave FC today announced that the club has re-signed midfielder Emily van Egmond to a new contract. Van Egmond is under contract with the Wave through the 2025 season.

“Emily has been a foundational member of this club and community since she first arrived in San Diego,” said San Diego Wave FC General Manager Molly Downtain. “She is a veteran player who was instrumental to our first two years of success and wants to continue to help the Wave raise more trophies. We are delighted to have her back with the club.” 

Van Egmond, 30, was originally acquired ahead of the Wave’s inaugural season in a trade with the Orlando Pride on Jan. 18, 2022. In two seasons with San Diego, the Australian international has made 35 appearances (34 starts), while accumulating two assists. Since joining the NWSL in 2018, van Egmond has appeared in 62 matches (54 Starts). 

 

A 14-year veteran, van Egmond has played in over 230 professional matches during her career. Prior to her time in Orlando, van Egmond would feature in the FA Women’s Super League with West Ham United (2020-21), Australia’s W-League sides in Newcastle Jets (2008-09, 2011-13, 2017-18, 2021, 2023), Canberra United (2009-11), Western Sydney Wanderers (2013-14) and Melbourne City (2019-20), Bundesliga sides, and Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) as a member of the Chicago Red Stars (2014) and the Western New York Flash (2012).
