Dahlkemper returns to active roster for first time in 2023
San Diego Wave FC today announced that defender Abby Dahlkemper has been removed from the club’s season-ending injury (SEI) list.
The center back was announced to the SEI list in October 2022 after suffering a back injury and later undergoing surgery. Prior to her season-ending injury, Dahlkemper played 13 matches (13 starts) in the club’s inaugural season with the Wave, tallying 840 minutes.
Dahlkemper is one of the most decorated defenders in NWSL and has played in the league since 2015, winning three NWSL Championships and being named to the Best XI three times. Following her standout play in 2017, she earned NWSL Defender of the Year.
Dahlkemper was the Wave’s first-ever signing ahead of its 2022 season, acquired through a three-way trade that included North Carolina Courage and the Houston Dash with her contract running through 2024.
Defender Cheyenne Shorts has been switched from an Injury Replacement to an open National Team Replacement contract for the club.
