San Diego Wave FC had a packed month in April, dedicating time and resources to the community partners and organizations throughout the city. Read more about our latest community projects and sign up here to volunteer with future events if interested.

Sunday, April 6 – The Wave FC Community Relations Department proudly showed support for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department’s (SDFD) Girls Empowerment Camp. This free, two-day camp provides teen girls ages 14 – 18 with hands-on experience and insight into careers in firefighting and public safety. Participants engage in activities such as search and rescue drills, hose handling, ladder operations, and CPR/AED training—guided by the incredible men and women of SDFD and San Diego Lifeguards.

Not only did the Wave attend in support of the initiative, but the Club was also invited to participate in the stations and get a firsthand look at the rigorous training the cadets go through and the everyday work the local heroes do to stay prepared and serve our communities.

During the event, Shannon Mac Millan, Wave FC Chief Impact Officer, had the honor of presenting SDFD Chief Robert Logan and SDFD Captain Alma Lowry with personalized San Diego Wave jerseys, complete with the SDFD logo. This gesture represents the Wave’s deep appreciation and continued commitment to strengthening our relationship with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, while celebrating the leaders who empower and inspire the next generation.

Thursday, April 10 –  San Diego Wave FC Community Relations and Ticketing teams joined the Club’s bi-monthly commitment with community partner, Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA). Together they assisted ASYMCA staff with bagging, organizing, and distributing food to local service members and their families.

Monday, April 14  San Diego Wave players, Hillary Beall, Kyra Carusa, Kristen McNabb, and Kennedy Wesley, and head equipment manager Sophia Robinson, visited the San Diego Fire Dispatch Center to meet with some of the incredible dispatchers who serve as the first line of communication in emergency situations. They learned more about the essential, behind-the-scenes work the professionals do every day and had the powerful experience of listening in on real-time 911 calls – offering a unique glimpse into the composure and emotional strength required for such a demanding role.

As a gesture of gratitude, the players presented the center with a custom Wave jersey featuring “911” on the back – an appreciation for the dispatchers’ tireless service to our community.

Tuesday, April 15 –  The Wave community team, along with two volunteers, prepped, cooked, and served a meal for the families at the Ronald McDonald House. The visit is part of the Club’s monthly commitment to the house to support the families who call RMH their home during difficult times.

Saturday, April 19 – San Diego Wave completed the first Adopt-A-Highway litter removal. Tiffany and Cody, our Community Relations coordinators, kicked off this initiative on behalf of the Club by tackling all four ramp locations – both the northbound and southbound off-ramps and on-ramps along the I-5 Freeway at Genesee Avenue freeway exits and entrances. The next time you’re driving in the area, keep an eye out for our official Adopt-A-Highway signage – and who knows, you might even spot our team out there in action.

Monday, April 21 –  The Wave FC community department continued its monthly tradition of visiting a local fire station to show appreciation and deliver lunch. This month, the team stopped by San Diego Fire-Rescue Station 8 to drop off sandwiches, meet the firefighters, and tour their station. Many people don’t realize that firefighters are responsible for purchasing all of their own food – it’s not provided by the city. Thanks to our incredible community partner, Captain Lowry of SDFD, San Diego Wave FC is able to support a different station each month.

Friday, April 25 – Our Wave FC community team along with members of the Levine Leichtman Family Office were extended the honor of being invited to a very special morning at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego. Tiffany, Sabrina, and Carter enjoyed a private breakfast with Brigadier General Jason L. Ryans and his wife, Mrs. Krista Lee-Ryans; Brigadier General Daniel B. Taylor, Assistant Wing Commander of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, and his wife, Mrs. Suzy Taylor; and Sergeant Major Oranjel A. Leavy, Sergeant Major of MCRD San Diego and the Western Recruiting Region. After breakfast, they had the privilege of attending the MCRD graduation ceremony as distinguished guests — an unforgettable experience that highlighted the incredible traditions, discipline, and honor of the United States Marine Corps.

Saturday, April 26 – San Diego Wave staff and volunteers participated in a volunteer event at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, a beautiful final resting place for our nation’s heroes. Together with the San Diego Rotary Club 33 and our Marines from MCRD, the team assisted the professional staff in preparing the cemetery for the upcoming Memorial Remembrance Day. The Wave’s efforts focused on landscaping and cleaning the headstones, helping preserve the beauty and pristine grounds of this sacred space.
