Wave Joins a Growing List of Power100 Champions, Leading Region to Sustainable Future

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – At an on-field ceremony during the last regular season match of San Diego Wave Fútbol Club’s historic inaugural season on Friday, the team and San Diego Community Power will announce that they have teamed up to use 100% clean, renewable energy at their front office space.

As part of their commitment to a more equitable and sustainable future for all San Diegans, Wave FC has become San Diego Community Power’s latest Power100 champion, joining the ranks of the San Diego Padres, Sharp HealthCare, Illumina and the San Diego International Airport.

“This pledge is our commitment to the city of San Diego and to the future of all San Diegans,” Wave FC President Jill Ellis said. “Sustainability is a responsibility that we embrace at Wave FC, and we are incredibly proud to partner with San Diego Community Power to fuel our front office with renewable energy.”

After shattering National Women’s Soccer League attendance record with their first match at Snapdragon Stadium on Sept. 17, Wave FC made history again last week by becoming the first expansion team to make the playoffs during their first year in the league.

By opting up to Power100, the Wave FC front office will be powered by 100% renewable, carbon-free energy – making them the first NWSL team to publicly make such a commitment.

“San Diego Community Power and San Diego Wave FC have a shared vision of making our region stronger by investing in our communities, promoting diversity and inclusion, and creating a more equitable world for the next generation,” said San Diego Community Power Chief Executive Officer Karin Burns. “As the most successful expansion team in league history, it’s no surprise that San Diego Wave FC continues to grow its reputation as trailblazers by becoming true champions for clean energy and a brighter future for the San Diego region.”

San Diego Community Power is a community choice energy program that gives customers an option to run their businesses and homes on significantly higher levels of renewable power at competitive rates compared to the region’s historic energy plans. Over the last two years, it began providing service to more than 980,000 municipal, business and residential power customers in the cities of San Diego, Chula Vista, Encinitas, La Mesa and Imperial Beach.
