The back of the jersey has the word PRIDE, while the number 23 is part of the exclusive on-field numbers being worn by players. The new designs were brought to fruition by NWSL Creative Director Maureen Raisch, who took numbers one through nine and created a unique design for each digit in celebration of diversity.

Community Efforts
During Pride month and beyond, the Wave staff, community team and first-team will continue to reflect on, educate around and advance the club’s efforts toward promoting inclusivity in the organization.

The Wave’s Neighborhood Tour will take place on Thursday, June 22 in the Hillcrest community. As part of the tour, the Wave’s staff and select players will visit The Center, one of the largest and most vibrant LGBTQ+ community centers in the nation. The Center’s CEO, Cara Dessert, will take part in the coin toss on June 24 with the captains ahead of the match.

Wave’s Player Initiatives
Defenders Madison Pogarch and Christen Westphal have partnered with The Center in an effort to raise money for a local San Diego program run by San Diego Youth Services, Our Safe Place (OSP) in Chula Vista. OSP is a safe place for one of San Diego’s most vulnerable populations: LGBTQ+ youth.

The two players designed a crew neck t-shirt that can be purchased here with all proceeds benefiting OSP.

Pride Parade & Athlete Alley
On Saturday, July 15, the Wave will take part in the city’s biggest Pride event by walking in the annual San Diego Pride Parade. The Pride Parade is the largest single-day civic event in the region and is among the largest Prides in the United States attracting over 300,000 people.

In addition to the parade, the Wave have sponsored a space within the Pride Parade festival in Athlete Alley. The 2-day festival highlights the best in LGBTQ+ entertainment, interactive exhibits, cultural presentations and community resources.
