Wave to host doubleheader watch party on July 21 ahead of USWNT kickoff in World Cup
San Diego Wave FC today announced details surrounding the club’s watch parties and activations around the 2023 FIFA World Cup.
Watch parties are being hosted for all three of the United States’ group stage matches: USA vs. Vietnam (Friday, July 21 – 6:00 p.m. PT), USA vs. Netherlands (Wednesday, July 26 – 6:00 p.m. PT) and USA vs. Portugal (Tuesday, Aug. 1. – 12:00 a.m. PT).
The opening group stage match on July 21 will take place at Novo Brazil Brewing in Otay Ranch. Following the USWNT match, San Diego Wave takes on the Portland Thorns at 7:30 p.m. PT in the team’s final stretch of UKG Challenge Cup group stage matches. The Wave’s signature “La Ola” will be available for a special price of $5.
On July 26, the Wave will host a watch party at Guava Beach Bar & Grill in Mission Beach as the USWNT takes on the Netherlands.
In the final group match for the USWNT on Aug. 1, the Wave and American Outlaws San Diego will be co-hosting a watch party at O’Brien’s Pub in Convoy.

Throughout the city, San Diego Wave will have a presence at local pubs and restaurants. Exclusive coasters can be found and scanned for a chance to win a signed Alex Morgan jersey, along with additional prizes including tickets to the club’s World Cup Welcome Back Night on Sunday, Sept. 3.

World Cup Waves
Morgan, recently named co-captain of the USWNT, is attending her fourth FIFA World Cup representing the USA, while Girma is embarking on her first-ever World Cup. Morgan is entering the tournament with 207 appearances, 121 goals and 49 assists for the USA. Girma made her senior debut with the USWNT in April 2022 and has since become a constant player, registering 16 appearances at the centerback position.
In addition, Kailen Sheridan, the 2022 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year, will return to the World Cup for the second time with Canada, taking on Nigeria on Thursday, July 20, at 7:30 p.m. PT.
Forward Sofia Jakobsson, a veteran for Sweden, is entering her fourth World Cup with 144 caps and 23 goals, including four goals in World Cup matches. Jakobsson and Sweden start their run on Saturday, July 22, against South Africa at 10:00 p.m. PT.
Midfielder Emily van Egmond, one of eight women to reach 100 caps for Australia, will be representing the host country in the World Cup for the fourth time. Australia kicks off on July 20, against the Republic of Ireland at 3:00 a.m. PT.
