Republic of Ireland international and San Diego native joins club following 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup

San Diego Wave FC announced today that the club has acquired forward Kyra Carusa from London City Lionesses via a free transfer. Carusa is now under contract with the Wave for the remainder of the 2023 season.

“We started following Kyra closely this offseason, and we are excited to welcome her to the club,” said San Diego Wave FC Head Coach Casey Stoney. “She will bring healthy competition to our forward group and provide the team with much-needed depth for the rest of this season. She’s just coming back from the World Cup and eager to make a difference to help her hometown make a run deep into the playoffs.”

Carusa, 27, joins San Diego after spending the past season with the Lionesses, where she played in eight matches and scored one goal. Originally making her professional debut with French club Le Havre AC in April 2019, she made three appearances and scored four goals, before signing with Danish club HB Køge in the Kvinde 1. division. Carusa made 57 appearances for HB Køge, where she recorded 30 goals and 13 assists and helped lead the club to back-to-back Danish Championships.

Internationally, Carusa made her debut for the Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team in February 2020 at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2021 Qualifying.

Carusa started all three matches for Ireland during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and showcased some of the team’s best chances throughout the tournament. Ireland’s World Cup run came to an end in the Group Stage, finishing out with one draw and two losses in Group B.
