iIn one of the most high-profile deals in NWSL history, Wave FC announced the signing of the world-renowned forward Alex Morgan via trade with Orlando Pride in Nov. ‘21

Morgan is one of the most decorated players in women’s soccer history. She is a two-time World Cup champion, Olympic gold medalist, UEFA Champions League winner and NWSL league champion. The prolific goal scorer and inventive playmaker makes the move back to Southern California, where she grew up and began her trailblazing career, and will make an immediate impact for the franchise both on and off the field.

PROFESSIONAL: Morgan was the first overall pick in the 2011 WPS Draft by the Western New York Flash where she propelled the club to the regular season title and WPS Championship that same year. In 2013 Morgan joined the Portland Thorns FC during the NWSL’s inaugural season. She assisted on the second goal in the championship match to capture the first title in league history. In 2016, Morgan was traded from Portland Thorns to Orlando Pride and signed a six-month contract in 2017 with French club Lyon, where she won the French and Champions League titles in the same year. Morgan went on loan with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, more commonly known as Spurs from September – December of 2021. To close out 2021, she joined the San Diego Wave FC for their inaugural season in a trade with the Orlando Pride.

INTERNATIONAL: In her decorated career with the U.S. National Team, Morgan has netted 115 goals in 190 appearances. She also played a key role with the USA securing the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup titles, being named to the Dream Team for both tournaments and winning the Silver Boot in 2019. Among other international soccer accolades, Morgan was the 2012 U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year and a 2012 FIFA World Player of the Year Finalist. A testament to her leadership, Morgan cocaptained the U.S. from 2018-2020.

Morgan first joined the senior National Team in 2010 and was the youngest player on the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup squad where they finish second, losing on penalties in the final against Japan. The following year, Morgan assisted on the second goal in the gold medal match at the 2012 London Olympics to beat Japan. She was recognized as the CONCACAF 2013 Female Player of the Year and was named US Soccer’s Female Player of the Year in 2018.

COLLEGE: At UC Berkeley, Morgan led the team in scoring during her freshman season. She helped the team reach the NCAA Tournaments four years in a row and became the first Gold Bear named as a finalist for the Hermann Trophy, awarded annually to the best collegiate soccer player.

PERSONAL: Morgan grew up in Diamond Bar, California with her parents Michael and Pamela Morgan, and her sisters, Jenny, and Jeri Morgan. Morgan is married to former MLS player Servando Carrasco, the two have a daughter named Charlie. In addition to soccer, Morgan is a best-selling author. Morgan wrote a 12-book series called “The Kicks,” to help inspire young girls and celebrate her love of soccer. Morgan also published her memoir, Breakaway in 2015. Morgan starred in a movie called Alex&Me in 2018. In March of 2021, she founded the media company, Togethxr.
