SAN DIEGO, Calif. (June 12, 2022) – Finishing off the week of three matches, Wave FC collected a point thanks to a record-breaking goal from Alex Morgan after tying OL Reign 1-1 on Sunday afternoon at Torero Stadium in front of 5,000 fans. Today’s match maintains San Diego’s unbeaten home record in the regular season (2-0-2). San Diego moves to a record of 4-3-2 heading into next weekend’s match against Gotham FC in New Jersey.
Alex Morgan got the home crowd on their feet early as she found the back of the net in the eighth minute of the match after Kailen Sheridan found her over the top of OL Reign’s defense. This goal tied Morgan’s NWSL single-season best of nine goals scored when she was a member of Orlando Pride in 2017. It also tallied Kailen Sheridan’s first assist of the season.
OL Reign equalized the score with a goal from Jess Fishlock in the 38’ minute from a one touch shot to the back of the net, for her seventh goal of the season.
The second half stayed level at 1-1 between the two teams with a high intensity end to the match and each team taking home a point from the draw.
The San Diego Wave Fútbol Club will prepare for next Sunday’s match against Gotham FC at Red Bull Arena. This will be Wave FC’s second match against Gotham FC this season. Their previous match up ended in a win for Wave FC with a score of 4-0, where Alex Morgan set NWSL records by scoring all four of the goals.

SD Wave forward Alex Morgan:
On Kailen Sheridan’s assist:
“Kailen is great with her feet, her range is the best in the league. She plays just like another field player.”
On the team’s early success:
“Every single game we want to start on the front foot and be aggressive, and I felt that we did that, we got in behind and picked off some balls from their center backs. We were unlucky to not get a second goal in the first 20 minutes though.”
On the team’s back to back tie scores:
“It was great for us to build on our last game performance against Portland but these were both games we were unlucky not to win. Today though, we were able to show why we are continuing to be at the top of the table around the other top teams in the league.”
SD Wave forward Kelsey Turnbow:
On the team’s performance:
“We’ve really seen growth in our performances and our connections are great. We need to continue to take away the keys of what we’ve done well which is going to be crucial for us the rest of this season.”
SD Wave head coach Casey Stoney:
On Alex’s Morgan’s leadership:
“She’s leading us on the field, she’s getting in behind, creating chances, tracking back, defending, keeping calm in big moments and overall she’s giving us complete performances which is credit to her. Her leadership is helpful especially with having a young team.”
On the team’s early goal:
“Something we talked about was can we get in front rather than fall behind and we had so many positive chances. I was really really pleased with our start.”
