San Diego Wave FC (12-3-7, 39 points) travels to face Seattle Reign FC (9-8-4, 26 points) at Lumen Field on Sunday, Sept. 6. The match is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
San Diego and Seattle have met 14 times in NWSL regular season play, with the Reign holding a 10-1-3 advantage in the all-time series. Seattle earned a 2-0 victory over the Wave in the clubs’ most recent meeting on July 26 at Snapdragon Stadium. A victory on Sunday would mark San Diego’s first league win over Seattle since March 2024.
The Wave enter the weekend looking to continue their strong form on the road. San Diego has earned 42 road points since the start of the 2025 season, the second-most in the league behind the Washington Spirit. The Wave are also tied for the most wins on the road (six) this year with Gotham FC and the Spirit.

San Diego enters this weekend’s match following a 3-2 comeback win over Racing Louisville FC on Aug. 28 at Snapdragon Stadium. The Wave erased a two-goal halftime deficit with second-half goals from Trinity Byars and Kenza Dali to earn their first home win in NWSL regular season play. Dali’s game-winning goal marked the seventh goal San Diego has scored off the bench this season, the most in the NWSL. The victory also marked San Diego’s 12th of the season, setting a new club record for wins in a single season.
Seattle Reign FC enters the match following a 1-0 victory over the Houston Dash on Aug. 30 at Lumen Field. Maddie Mercado set up Maddie Dahlien for the game’s only goal, delivering a back-post cross that Dahlien finished on the half-volley in the 52nd minute.
Player to Watch:
Trinity Byars, NWSL Player of the Week, has recorded four goals and two assists across the club’s last two matches. She has become just the second player in Wave FC history to reach double-digit goals in a single season and the fifth player in NWSL history to contribute to six goals across a two-match span. Byars leads San Diego with 10 goals this season.
Maddie Mercado leads Seattle with seven goals this season. The San Diego native has scored in three consecutive matches this year against Portland Thorns FC, Gotham FC and San Diego, including the opening goal in Seattle’s 2-0 victory over the Wave on July 26. Her seven goals this season surpassed her combined regular-season total from her first two NWSL seasons, when she recorded one goal.
