SAN DIEGO (Aug. 6, 2026) – San Diego Wave FC (10-5-2, 32 points) continues its East Coast road trip on Friday, Aug. 7, traveling to face Gotham FC (11-3-4, 37 points) at Sports Illustrated Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. PT, with the match broadcasting live on Prime Video. 

San Diego and Gotham FC have met 10 times across all competitions, with the Wave holding a 7-2-1 advantage in the all-time series while outscoring Gotham 16-6. The two sides last met on July 4 at Snapdragon Stadium, where San Diego earned a 2-0 victory with goals from Melanie Barcenas and Trinity Byars. Barcenas opened the scoring just before halftime with a long-range strike before Byars sealed the result in second-half stoppage time.  

Last Time Out:
San Diego earned a 1-0 road victory over the Washington Spirit on August 2 at Audi Field, handing the Spirit its first home loss of the season. Rookie midfielder Lia Godfrey scored the game-winning goal in the 60th minute after combining with Byars. Goalkeeper Sandra Paños recorded the first clean sheet of her NWSL career, while Kristen McNabb became the first player in Club history to make 100 appearances for the Wave. The victory also marked San Diego’s first-ever win at Audi Field and extended the Club’s unbeaten road stretch to five matches. 

Gotham FC enters Friday’s match after a 1-0 victory over the Houston Dash to move into first place in the NWSL standings. Sam Kerr scored the lone goal early in the second half off a cross from Guro Reiten, while goalkeeper Shelby Hogan made six saves to earn her third consecutive clean sheet. Gotham enters the weekend unbeaten in its last six league matches (5-0-1) and has recorded a league-leading 11 shutouts this season. 

Players to Watch:
Lia Godfrey continued her standout rookie campaign against Washington, scoring her fifth goal of the season and fourth game-winning goal, setting a new single-season Club record. The midfielder has emerged as one of the Wave’s attacking threats and her connection with Byars has helped fuel San Diego’s recent success. The Wave have also scored a league-high eight goals in the final 15 minutes of matches this season. 

For Gotham FC, Sam Kerr enters Friday’s contest in strong form after scoring the game-winner against Houston. The veteran forward’s strike was her second goal of the season and the 30th regular-season goal of her career with Gotham FC, tying the club’s all-time regular-season scoring record. Kerr also became just the third player in NWSL history to reach 80 career goals across all competitions.
