San Diego Wave FC (3-3-0, 9 points) looks to bounce back this Sunday, May 14, against Kansas City Current (2-4-0, 6 points) at Children’s Mercy Park. Kick off is slated for 3:00 p.m. PT and the match will be available to stream live on Paramount+.

Sunday will mark the third overall matchup between the two sides since the Wave’s inaugural season. With an overall series record of 0-1-1 (W-L-D), San Diego has yet to defeat the Current. The Wave’s first meeting against Kansas City was on June 4, 2022, ending in a 2-2 draw on the road for San Diego. Forward Alex Morgan earned a brace, including a late-match penalty kick in the 90th minute that secured a point for the Wave. San Diego then fell to the Current at Torero Stadium on Aug. 7, in a 2-1 loss with the Wave’s lone goal scored by forward Amirah Ali.

Kansas City enters this weekend coming off a 3-2 defeat against Angel City FC at BMO Stadium. Angel City got on the board first with three first-half goals before the Current made a comeback attempt in the second half. Kansas City scored two goals in the final 45 minutes of play by defender Isabel Denise Rodriguez and midfielder Cece Kizer.

The Wave are coming off the club’s second-straight loss, falling 3-1 this past Saturday to Washington Spirit. After going down 3-0, the Wave finally struck in the 90th minute as Morgan found a rebound in the box to put San Diego on the board, notching her team-leading fourth goal of the 2023 season.

Morgan has now scored 24 goals in all competitions since the beginning of 2022, most in the league in that time. That total also equals Morgan’s goal output in all NWSL competitions from 2015 to 2021 combined.
