The San Diego Wave return to NWSL regular season play following 57 days since playing a regular season match at home. The team is facing Angel City FC for the third time this season, second in regular season play. Their most recent meeting took place on Aug. 1 at Titan Stadium as part of the Liga MX Summer Cup.

Today’s match will be broadcast live nationally on CBS, locally on CW and live streamed on Paramount+.

  • Rookie defender Kennedy Wesley enters the starting lineup for the seventh time this season and currently holds an 82% pass completion rate in NWSL regular season play.
  • Captain Abby Dahlkemper starts her 12th regular season match and has logged 1035 total minutes so far in regular season play.
  • Sweden international Hanna Lundkvist starts her 15th match of the year and most recently logged an assist in the Wave’s recent outing in their Concacaf W Champions Cup match in Panama.
  • Emily van Egmond starts her 10th match of the season, with 16 total regular season appearances as the midfielder returns after the Olympics.
  • Southern California native Makenzy Doniak starts her ninth match of the regular season and has three total goals on the year.
  • Mel Barcenas earns her first-ever NWSL regular season start. The San Diego native was featured in the starting XI in the Wave’s recent Concacaf W Champions Cup match on Tuesday.
  • On the outside flank, Sofia Jakobsson starts her sixth match of the regular season and has one goal so far on the year.
  • Rookie Mya Jones earns her ninth start and currently has one goal so far on the season.
  • Midseason acquisition María Sánchez has now scored two goals for San Diego this season, coming off a goal in the Wave’s most recent outing against Santa Fe FC.
  • Available off the bench are goalkeepers Morgan Messner and Hillary Beall; defender Christen Westphal and forwards Alex Morgan, Amirah Ali, Elyse Bennett and new French signee Delphine Cascarino.
  • Defenders Kaitlyn Torpey (Lower Leg) and Naomi Girma (excused absence); midfielders Savannah McCaskill (Lower Leg), Kimmi Ascanio (Lower Leg), and Danny Colaprico (Thigh); and forwards Kyra Carusa (Thigh) and Jaedyn Shaw (Thigh) are unavailable for today’s match.
  • Despite their unavailability for the match, Olympic gold medalists Jaedyn Shaw and Naomi Girma will be in attendance at today’s match as they recently returned to San Diego following their 2024 Paris Gold medal campaign.
