Head Groundskeeper

We are seeking a head groundskeeper to run the day-to-day field operations at the San Diego Wave FC training center (near the Polo Fields in Rancho Santa Fe). This is a full-time role that is pivotal in ensuring our grounds are in optimal condition for play.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute maintenance program to ensure a safe and professional level playing surface.
  • Develop and implement IPM program.
  • Calibrate and perform all applications of pesticides and fertilizers, safely.
  • Safely operate all types of machines in turfgrass maintenance including but not limited to mower, tractor, aerifier, and sprayer.
  • Perform regular maintenance on equipment.
  • Layout and paint soccer field lines.
  • Monitor irrigation and soil moisture levels and adjust accordingly.
  • Maintain irrigation system and complete minor repairs.
  • Perform field testing weekly and supply report to the coaching staff.
  • Schedule the turf maintenance program to work around the schedule of the team.
  • Communicate with coaching staff weekly on the condition of the fields as well as any maintenance work that is scheduled.

Educational/Skill Requirements:

  • Preferred candidate will have a two- or four-year degree in turfgrass management.
  • Preferred candidate will have minimum of 3 years of sports turf related experience at professional level.
  • Extensive knowledge of landscaping techniques and processes.
  • Working knowledge of the cultural practices required for Bermuda grass at a professional soccer level.
  • Ability to operate power equipment including but not limited to lawnmowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
  • Ability to operate hand tools used for landscaping.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to layout and paint soccer field lines.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Must have a valid and clean driver’s license.
  • Must have a current California pesticide license or obtain one in six months.
  • Ability to work with prolonged periods walking, standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, or kneeling.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Candidate will be self-motivated and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both writing and verbally.

Wave FC Leadership Team

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced in June 2021 that San Diego will be home to an NWSL expansion team, set to begin play in Spring 2022. Jill Ellis, the only two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup winning manager and a former FIFA World Women’s Coach of the Year recipient, serves as President of Wave FC while England standout and former Manchester United Women’s Manager, Casey Stoney, will serve as the team’s head coach. The Wave FC is owned by investor, Ron Burkle, with longtime business associate, Matt Alvarez, serving as Vice Chairman.

About NWSL

The National Women’s Soccer League is a 12-team Division-I women’s professional soccer league featuring national team players from around the world. The clubs are the Chicago Red Stars, Houston Dash, North Carolina Courage, Orlando Pride, Portland Thorns FC, OL Reign, NY/NJ Gotham FC, Kansas City, Washington Spirit, and Racing Louisville FC. Expansion teams LA Angel City and San Diego Wave FC will being play in 2022. Based in Chicago, the NWSL partners with the Canadian Soccer Association and the United States Soccer Federation.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILIITES:

  • Share in our mission.
  • Manage and achieve ambitious lead generation goals.
  • Oversee paid media planning and execution working with outside media partners.
  • Build and execute integrated go-to-market plans across all touch-points for major commercial initiatives for the club.
  • With the VP, Head of Marketing, build the foundation of marketing metrics, analytics, and reporting that allows us to make data-driven decision to propel us forward.
  • Develop successful campaign strategies across Paid, Earned and Owned channels that drive fan growth, ticket sales, merchandise sales and sponsor value.
  • Develop target audiences to reach via different campaigns.
  • Build a reporting dashboard showing metrics for key promotionsLead market research and survey strategies to measure brand awareness, brand sentiment, and interest in ticket sales and merchandise sales.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors for services needed to execute a marketing strategy.
  • Stay up to date on the latest in sports, marketing, and corporate and community engagement techniques and trends; identify needs and lead recommendations to adapt to achieve set goals.
  • Manage internal teams and external vendors or media to launch and execute on our marketing strategies, initiatives, and campaigns on time and within budget maximizing ROI.
  • Own the promotional calendar for the club to coordinate promotions around game day, ticket sales, etc.
  • Regularly attend club events, player training, press conferences, and home games.
  • Collaborate with bi-lingual content creators to develop Spanish marketing campaigns.
  • Adapt quickly as business needs arise.

QUALIFIED?

  • 7+ years of experience in marketing management
  • Experience managing people, campaigns, budgets, and aggressive timelines
  • Your exceptional at building rapport and relationships
  • Track record of meeting and exceeding marketing objectives and goals
  • Available for game day and other events (often outside of traditional business hours)
  • Professional, positive, and proactiveEffective communication skills, solid attention to detail, and solutions orientated
  • Desire and ability to take on responsibilities in a fast-paced, start-up environment
  • Passion for the success of Women’s Professional Sports
  • Advanced applied knowledge of MS Office suite
  • Bilingual – English & Spanish, preferred
