Sheridan and van Egmond face-Off in 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup
Two San Diego Wave FC stars, goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan and midfielder Emily van Egmond, faced off last night in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada vs. Australia. The Australian Matildas were victorious 4-0 over Canada at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on Monday night, which locked them in a spot in Round of 16 and a first-place finish on top of Group B. On the other hand, Canada’s 2023 World Cup run came to an end with the result Monday night.
Van Egmond retained her place in the Starting XI and played 84 minutes before subbing out to defender Clare Polkinghorne. Sheridan started in net for Canada Monday night and played throughout the full 90 minutes plus stoppage time.
A first-half brace from Australia’s Hayley Raso set the tone for the host nation, with goals from Mary Fowler and Steph Catley following in the second half sealing Australia’s place in the Round of 16
Australia will now head to Sydney in the coming days as they await the reveal of their Round of 16 opponent from the runner up of Group D. The fixture will take place on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Stadium Australia.
