The best football players and coaches around the world from the 2021/2022 season will be crowned by FIFA on Monday, February 27, and San Diego Wave FC forward Alex Morgan will be in attendance as a finalist.
The event is set to kick off at 9 p.m. local time in Paris (12 p.m. PT) and can be streamed live for free here. FIFA The Best honors are voted on by players, coaches, fans and journalists.
Morgan is coming off the best season of her club career, scoring a career-high 15 regular season goals to win the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Golden Boot. Named to the NWSL Best XI First Team, Morgan appeared in 19 matches (18 starts), helping the Wave secure a third-place finish in the club’s inaugural season.
In addition, Morgan tallied four goals and one assist for the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2022. Morgan leads all active U.S. WNT players with 121 international goals.
Monday’s event will be the seventh edition of the FIFA The Best awards, which have been taking place since 2016 after world governing body FIFA opted to establish its own awards. The Ballon d’Or, the FIFA The Best awards, and the Globe Soccer awards are recognized as the most coveted annual global football honors.
