San Diego Wave FC spent the month of August fundraising money for the Club’s incredible sponsors through the annual Community Golf Classic while also dedicating time and resources to continued partners. Saturday, August 9 – San Diego Wave contributed 1,500 water bottles, 500 t-shirts, and an in-kind donation box to support the Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation’s 9th Annual Back-to-School Haircut Drive. The event provided free haircuts, supplies, and back-to-school essentials to 1,200 kids.

Saturday, August 9 – Wave FC celebrated YMCA Night at Snapdragon Stadium with a special ticket promotion for YMCA families with an on-field recognition of their Spring and Summer Volunteer Coaches of the Season.

Monday, August 11 – The Club hosted its second annual Wave FC Community Golf Classic at the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club, raising over $60,000 to support community partners and initiatives throughout San Diego.

Wednesday, August 13 – Wave FC midfielder Kenza Dali visited a local youth soccer club in Chula Vista, City SC, to speak to the young girls, answer questions, and encourage the team throughout their practice.

Thursday, August 14 – Wave FC’s Community Relations team, alongside volunteers, supported community partner the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) during their food distribution event. Together, the team helped sort, bag, and distribute food to active-duty military personnel and their families.

Tuesday, August 19 – San Diego Wave players and staff visited the San Diego LGBT Community Center, one of the most vibrant and largest LGBTQ community centers in the nation, ahead of the Club’s annual Pride Night themed match on August 24. The group learned about all of the ways the Center shows up for San Diego with various programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBT community, including men, women, youth, seniors, transgender and non-binary individuals, families, LGBTQ Latino/a/x community members, and their families, and those living with HIV.

Tuesday, August 19 — The San Diego Wave community team returned to Ronald McDonald House of San Diego to assist in the kitchen—prepping, cooking, and serving lunch to the families staying at the House. In addition, the Club donated $10,000 worth of Wave hoody sweatshirts, shirts, hats, and other merchandise tp support families staying at the house this fall and winter.

Thursday, August 28 — The Wave FC community team stopped by San Diego Fire Station 31 near Patrick Henry High School for the Club’s monthly firehouse lunch visit. This time they dropped off pizza, drinks, and snacks for the crew as firefighters are responsible for purchasing their own meals while on duty.

Saturday, August 30 — The Wave FC community team completed its fifth Adopt-a-Highway cleanup, removing litter along the on and off ramps at Genesee Avenue off the 5 Freeway. To date, the Club has collected nearly 25 bags of trash, marking a small but impactful way to help keep the city of San Diego clean.
