SAN DIEGO (Sept. 14, 2026) – San Diego Wave FC announced today that the club has signed midfielder/defender Tatum Wynalda to a one-year contract extension through 2027.
“Tatum has earned this contract extension through the work and commitment she has shown every day since joining the club,” said Camille Ashton, San Diego Wave FC General Manager and Sporting Director. “She has made the most of every chance she’s been given and continues to show she can contribute at this level. We’re happy to have her back with the group next season.”
Wynalda initially joined San Diego on a short-term injury replacement contract at the start of the 2026 season and made her professional debut on March 14. She later signed a new injury replacement contract through the remainder of the 2026 season after establishing herself as a reliable option for the Wave.
The Southern California native has appeared in 16 matches for San Diego this season. In the Wave’s 2-2 draw at Houston Dash on May 20, Wynalda helped initiate the stoppage-time equalizer with a long ball over the top that found Perle Morroni, who combined with Gia Corley before Trinity Byars finished the rebound to secure a point on the road.
“I’m really excited to continue with the Wave and build on my first season as a professional,” said Wynalda. “I’ve learned so much from my teammates and the staff, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to compete and grow at this level. I’m excited to keep building on that next season and do whatever I can to help the team succeed.”
Wynalda joined the professional ranks after graduating from Pepperdine University, where she recorded 23 goals and 17 assists in 79 career appearances. As a senior, she posted a career-high 10 assists while helping Pepperdine win back-to-back West Coast Conference championships in 2024 and 2025. Wynalda earned All-WCC Second Team honors in 2022, 2023 and 2024 before being named to the All-WCC First Team in 2025.
